Sambuka are a community based percussion band who have been exciting audiences and recruiting converts to the delights of afro-brazilian rhythms for more than a decade.

Based at St. Mary's Church, Old High Street, Hemel Hempstead we welcome new people to the band frequently. No experience necessary!

Major performances have included Notting Hill Carnival and London's Thames Festival. We are available to perform at all kinds of functions - even weddings and christenings!

We have a wide range of instruments - so you don't need to bring your own. First time is free! After that its £3 (free for under 16's and students). Workshops run from 8pm to 10pm on Monday's (except Bank Holidays) and Holy Week.

Sambuka are led by Bob Garland. Bob has studied and performed in Brazil several times, including with top samba schools in the Rio Carnival and in Salvador, Bahia.

We also invite top guest teachers along from time to time. Previous teachers include Sam Alexander, Joe Hanson, Dave Willetts, Beto (Estacio Da Sa).

If you are interested in playing or booking Sambuka, please contact Bob on 01442 384854 or Julia on 01442 262010

or e-mail bob@sambuka.co.uk

Our 18 minute 2001 CD "The Sound of the Drum" produced in conjunction with Sam Alexander is available from Bob Garland at £5 plus p&p.

Feedback

"It was great to see Sambuka at Tring Midsummer Fun Run once again this year and I would be grateful if you could pass on my thanks to all the band members who came along to help make the event such a success" RB - The Iain Rennie Hospice".

You and the band made a big impression on Saturday night .... and I thought that you'd like to know that everyone has been raving about your performance ... even dadio said, "it was the band made the evening such a success" so give everyone my thanks .... with luck you'll be available for my next party .... in 2054 - GM (50th Birthday Party on Southwold pier).

WWow - you blew away the minds of me and my lady when we saw you at Wendover today. That was a majestic experience and completely unexpected. I first took my boat to Wendover in 1993 and today was my next visit (by car unfortunately), the event has certainly made it's mark since those days. We'll make a determined affort to catch you somewhere else (website already bookmarked!). I'm a 'drum' listener with Gene Krupa LPs and suchlike but your performance was unmissable. Congratulations to you all, indeed. Samba has taken on a new meaning...Stu
